Knife making Experiences

Release your inner blacksmith!

Here at Ridgeback Forge, we have always wanted to share our passion for knife making with everyone so we are giving you the opportunity to join us in the forge and release your inner blacksmith.

The experience days will use a flat bar of 1084 high carbon steel; this is a great start point as it makes a fantastic knife but is also forgiving enough for a novice maker.

Hot forging!

Having attended knife making experiences in the past where the teacher did all the work, we left feeling unfulfilled. When you come to Ridgeback Forge, you will perform all aspects of making the knife and leave with the satisfaction of enjoying what you have created.

Please note that this is a forging experience and there will be time spent heating the steel to 1100 degrees Celsius and then moulding the hot steel with a hammer.

The 1 day experience

On the 1 day experience, you’ll make a utility knife with a 5” blade and a full tang handle. The blade design is fairly open; you can choose to make a chef’s knife, a bushcrafting knife or a camp knife.

The 2 day experience

On the 2 day experience, you’ll make a full size chef’s knife with an 8” blade and full tang handle. The 2 day design is also open to different knife profiles such as a traditional western chef’s, a Santoku or even a Nakiri.

Prices.

The 1 day experience costs £200 per person and the 2 day experience costs £300 per person and we run the experience days on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Please let us know your availability, and we'll work to accommodate you. Please note that weekends are significantly busier than weekdays and we are currently booking 3-4 months in advance.
